Science is 50 of the TEAS's 170 questions โ the largest single section โ and it is where the widest score spread happens. The reason is simple: it is the only section where you cannot reason your way to the answer from the question itself. You either know the structure or you don't.
How the section splits
Roughly: human anatomy and physiology takes the largest share, followed by biology, then chemistry, then scientific reasoning. The practical reading of that: A&P is worth more than the other three combined in most forms, so it gets the majority of your science hours.
Learn systems as systems, not as word lists
The exam asks what a structure does and how systems interact, far more than it asks for isolated definitions. For each of the eleven body systems, be able to state three things: its main organs, its function, and the one other system it most obviously works with.
- Circulatory โ heart, vessels, blood. Moves oxygen, nutrients and waste. Pairs with respiratory.
- Respiratory โ trachea, bronchi, alveoli. Gas exchange. Pairs with circulatory.
- Digestive โ mouth to intestines. Breaks down food, absorbs nutrients via villi.
- Nervous โ brain, spinal cord, neurons. Rapid control and signalling.
- Endocrine โ glands and hormones. Slow, sustained control. Contrast it with nervous: same job, different speed.
- Skeletal โ support, protection, blood cell production, calcium storage.
- Muscular โ movement, posture, heat.
- Urinary โ kidneys filter blood and balance fluid.
- Integumentary โ skin: barrier, temperature, sensation.
- Immune/lymphatic โ defence and fluid return.
- Reproductive โ gametes and hormones.
The biology and chemistry you need
Biology stays at cell level: organelles and their jobs, the difference between mitosis and meiosis, DNA versus RNA, and basic Mendelian genetics. Chemistry stays at first-year level: atomic structure, the periodic table's organisation, ionic versus covalent bonding, acids and bases, and balancing simple equations.
Scientific reasoning
A small but very winnable group of questions on experimental design: identifying independent and dependent variables, control groups, and whether a conclusion is actually supported by the data shown. These require no memorisation at all โ practise a handful and they become free marks.
How to study it
